This morning I went golfing with some friends for the first time in a while, at Ahwatukee Lakes. It's a short course, par 60. Having not played in a few months, I really didn't expect much. Ended up doing ok, shot a 72. Put a tee shot to within about 2 feet on one par 3, within 3 feet on another. Made 2 birdies on the day. Even better, I used free golf balls from the Mercedes event I went to not long ago. :-P
It seems that I may have misplaced my recently-purchased mp3 player. I usually take it to work with me. Last time I remember having it was taking it home for lunch on Monday...but I don't remember if I took it back to work or not. It's not likely that I left it at work, because it sits right next to my cell phone on my desk, and I took that home. I haven't done a complete search of my car, but I know it's not under my seat or in the main storage areas. I can't seem to find it at home anywhere either.
I hope I didn't lose it. :-(
I finally found a car suitable for Car of the Week - the Mitsubishi Starion. I've seen one around campus lately, and it's just a cool car. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any good pics of one. If anybody has one, feel free to pass it on.
Cold is a bit of an understatement. With the wind chill, it felt like about 25 °F in the morning. The ground was practically frozen. The race tires were like rocks and offered nothing near real grip. The hose on my air tank just about froze; it could barely move. I had two jackets, and it wasn't enough to stay warm.
Turnout was pretty low, so we only had four groups. Unfortunately, I had to run in the first group of the morning, and there was just no grip to be had anywhere. My pax score was the lowest in months (921), so that's no good. On the positive side, it was a really fast, fun course. I spent a lot of time above 6000 rpms in second gear. It looks like the other guy in my class needs a 994 at the next event to beat me for the season, and I doubt that's going to happen, so at least I have first place essentially locked in.
In other autocross-related news, I signed up for the National Tour event here in January. I'm pretty sure I'll finish near dead last in my class, but it should be a good experience.
The bad news: original Goldfish have 19g of carbs per serving.
The good news: one serving is approximately 55 pieces.
Goldfish are good.
Thought I'd post a couple graphs.
First, my autocross stats. Every autocross I've done since I started is listed, color-coded by class. Here it is.
Second is a graph of weight vs time, which I started 2 weeks after my diet began (on 4/1/03). As such, you'll see that it starts at about 230lbs, rather than the 240lbs I actually weighed when I started. Just recently I hit my driver's license weight of 190, something I haven't been at since late '95. Here's the graph.
Yeah, so I haven't added any entries in a while. No excuses on my part. I'll put a whole bunch of them in one big post.
October 12th was a local autocross. Brandon was co-driving my car, and I was only able to beat him by a few tenths. ;-) I scored a 941, not bad at all. Clayton made his first appearance in his new-to-him S2000. Brian suffered through a not-so-well-setup Miata, and has probably now fallen behind in the series points. :-P
October 26th was an autocross in Tucson, and my first chance to use the GEEZ! cube I bought from a local autocrosser. Brian was co-driving, and I thought it would be cool to see how his runs compared to mine. While I pax'd fairly well (955), he slaughtered me and most of the field with a 984, the second-highest pax score of the day. For an under-prepared car, I'm very happy with that score - even if I wasn't driving. I haven't had a chance to look at the geez data yet, but what little I've looked at it shows that Brian carries just a little more speed through every single corner. How I'll manage to do that, I don't know. The Tucson season is half over, so I just need to go to one more event to qualify for a series trophy.
Today was another autocross, local again. Nobody co-driving my car this time. I put down a pretty decent time and pax'd a 944. Pretty consistent over the last 3 months here - 943, 941, 944. I think a goal of 950 next month is a good target to shoot for. I ran seven tenths faster in Time Only's, which would have been good for a 960, but hit a cone right at the end of the run. Brian got suckered in to co-driving a car on old, old tires (two of them were mine that I gave away six months ago when they were already almost two years old!). As a result, it was probably his lowest pax score EVAR (well, maybe in the last couple years). I've locked in the first-place DSP Open trophy - not hard to do when nobody else will even qualify - so next month I might try driving someone else's car, if they'll let me!
Check out Evan's phlog. Random pics taken from his camera phone.
Yeah, haven't updated the car of the week in a while. Nothing has really inspired me to do so. I thought about putting the new Ford GT up there, and while the stats are impressive, it's still a Ford. :-P
