Saturday morning I was taking my dad to the airport (a little before 6), and as we're driving on I-10, we see this white 15-passenger van with Mexico plates being followed by a police car with its lights on. After being followed for several miles, the van exits at Broadway and slams on the brakes, throwing plenty of tire smoke into the air. It comes to a stop, and I see 6 or 7 Mexicans jump out of the van and just start running down the off-ramp. I couldn't see if there were any more, as we had already passed them at that point, but it was still pretty funny. On my way back home the van was still there, but with maybe 6 police cars around it.
While doing my post-hot-dog Costco browsing, I see that they have introduced two fantastic new items since Wednesday:
1. Haier Stainless-Steel Kegerator, $500
2. The Complete Far Side: 1980-1994, $80
#2 is especially tempting!
...has come to a close. After 8 consecutive work days of spending <$3/day on lunch, today I spent $4.59 at a Jamba Juice right next to where I got my haircut. I tried one of their new flavors, which is supposed to have "1/3 fewer calories". While waiting for it to be finished, I checked out their book with the nutritional information. 440 calories vs the typical 700-ish for a regular one, with 53g of sugar vs 90-ish. They're sweetened with Splenda, apparently, and I would guess that the rest of the sugar (or at least most of it) is naturally produced by the fruit.
So anyway, that's the end of the cheap lunches. Average price over the 8 days was $1.64.
Another hot dog for lunch! You'd think I would get tired of them after a while...oh well.
Went to Costco again. Today, however, I learned that the Simpsons Season 4 box set has been released, and they're carrying it for $30.99. Woohoo!
No, Operation Cheap Lunch is over, but the spirit of cheapness still remains. Another $1.62 Costco special today. :-D
As the battle draws to a close, Day 5 brings me back home to more chicken strips, garlic hommus, and diet code red. Estimated cost: $2.50.
Total lunch spending for the week: $8.24. :-)
Total pieces of gum consumed in an effort to mask garlic breath: lots.
Day 4 takes me back to Costco for the second consecutive day. Total cost: $1.62. Another success. One more day to go!
Day 3 of my quest takes me to Costco, in search of the famous hot dog & soda combo. Total cost: $1.62. Success again! 3 for 3 so far. I should also note that Costco has gone to new napkin holders, and blue 20oz cups.
Lunch today was a plate full of grilled chicken strips from Costco, with some Waleed's Garlic Hommus and a glass of Diet Code Red. Estimated cost: $2.50. Cost of keeping co-workers and vampires away with garlic breath: priceless. Success!
Yes, that's updated too! The new Chrysler 300C. I like it.
This week I'm on a quest to spend less than $3 at lunch every day this week, after spending $6+ every day last week. Today I had lunch at my parent's house. Total cost: $0. Success! :-D
After finally obtaining another DVD rack the other day, I finally combined Teresa's DVD's with mine, and the DVD Collection link has been updated. Up to 194 now, I believe. :-o
...leads to a nice big bruise on my shin this morning. Yeah, I'm sure I won't hit that on anything over the next few days. Woo.
Over a month and no updates. That's great.
Starting today, I'm once again going to make an effort to post more often. We'll see how long that lasts.
What prompted this? Despite not having done any real jogging in the past couple months, last night I jogged 2 miles without stopping, for the second time ever. Not quite sure how that happened, as I figured I wouldn't be able to go for more than five minutes. Anyway, hooray me.
